Creative Writing Competition

In April 2021 SJF Library and the English Department launched a creative writing competition ‘Lessons from Lockdown’. Using just one side of paper we challenged pupils to give us ‘a snapshot in words’ reflecting their experience of lockdown. This was a chance to express some of their thoughts, feelings, hopes and concerns during these extraordinary times of enforced isolation and restrictions.

With entries in poetry and prose from years 7-9 we had writing that ranged from flights of fantasy to new appreciations of family, friends and freedom. Across the year groups we can see how SJF pupils have responded to their circumstances with courage, humour and imagination.

Said Mr Mort, Headteacher: “ It’s so heartening to see that while so much has been ‘on hold’ for the youngsters over the last year that they have been able to find a creative and imaginative outlet in their writing. I congratulate all the pupils who took part in the competition and I’m delighted for our winners.”
