Oxbridge

Over the past decade the Associated Sixth Form has had considerable success in securing places at the universities of Oxford and Cambridge. We usually receive between 10 and 15 offers depending on the number of applicants.

OXBRIDGE ADMISSIONS TEST NOTICE 2023

The Association is keen to support students in their Oxbridge applications. What do we offer? Each site has a dedicated Oxbridge Co-ordinator. This gives students a clear point of contact, someone who is readily available to offer advice and guidance. Dr Murray is the Oxbridge Co-ordinator at St Aidan’s and Mr Melville is the Oxbridge Co-ordinator at St John Fisher. The Careers Department also has a wealth of experience and expertise in Oxbridge applications and works closely with the Oxbridge Co-ordinators.

The process of applying should be thought of as running between January and December. In Year 12 students are encouraged to consider courses, universities and colleges. Speakers are invited into school and various talks are organised, such as the Area Information Evening in March. In late June / early July we organise visits to the Open Days. These two-night trips provide plenty of time to explore the universities, colleges and departments.

We begin the process of writing Personal Statements in June. Students must be ready to complete their UCAS forms early in September so there is little time available in Year 13 and the more preparation completed for Oxbridge in Year 12 the better. Preparations then begin for the various Oxford and Cambridge Admissions tests. We also offer support for interviews – a workshop led by the universities and, later, individual mock interviews – before students hear whether or not they have been summoned for an interview.

News of whether or not students have been made an offer will arrive in early January, although they will have to wait until results day in August to find out whether they have achieved the required grades. If so, then they will be in good company and follow in the footsteps of the many students from the Association who have also made it to Oxbridge.

Feel free to contact Dr Murray at St Aidan’s or Mr Melville at St John Fisher if you have any questions about Oxbridge.
