Sixth Form

The Sixth form was established and developed by the Association of St Aidan’s Church of England High School and St John Fisher Catholic High School.

This is a single structure providing a rich provision of courses in both schools with the interchange of staff and pupils between the schools making the fullest use of equipment, resources and materials.

Whilst providing courses for the whole range of academic ability, the Associated Sixth Form has achieved standards of excellence in tradi tional and applied vocational ‘A level results, attracting many new students to the school each year.

Students advance to many Universities and Institutes of Higher Education including both Oxford and Cambridge. Good contacts have also been established with local employers. The associated school arrangements provide an ideal preparation for students who will have to come to terms with the self-discipline and initiative demanded by the next stage of their career.

All students attend the Higher Education Conference and have the opportunity to attend Open Days at the Higher Education establishments. A meeting for parents and students is also organised to discuss the options at this stage.
All students are fully supported by our well established links with the Careers Services and are individually interviewed.

Careers in the Sixth Form
A comprehensive careers programme is organised within the Sixth Form. The aim is to enable students to select the most suitable post-18 option for them and to make the necessary preparations for life after school. The main focus is application to university as the vast majority of students progress on to Higher Education. Various events are organised, including an Options Evening for parents and presentations from outside speakers. Students who make a UCAS application receive help from the careers service and school staff on their choice of course and how to complete the UCAS form. St John Fisher has a well-equipped careers library with a wide range of resources including ICT programme.
A Prospectus for the Sixth Form is published giving full information.
