Curriculum

The Aims of the Curriculum

The Curriculum encompasses all the activities, relationships and interactions in the school whether structured or unstructured.

Our curriculum aims to:
• Educate for life by seeking to reveal God’s presence in all creation.
• Provide equality of opportunity for all pupils with due regard to their gender, race and aptitude.
• Offer content with breadth, balance, relevance, differentiation, progression and continuity in all its structured activities.
• Deliver the National Curriculum
• Organise and deliver programmes of learning in a variety of ways relevant to the needs and potential of each child.
• Present a coherent body of knowledge embracing moral, aesthetic, social and intellectual values consistent with the teaching of the Catholic Church.

Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 & 9)
In Years 7, 8 & 9 children will study core and foundation subjects as determined by the National Curriculum together with Religious Education.

As a Specialist Arts College we also aim to enrich pupils’ experience of the arts through additional music, art, dance and drama lessons.
This ensures a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum, which can be effectively delivered to each child by the various subject departments within the school.

Religious Education conforms with the teaching of the doctrines of the Catholic Church. The Sex Education and Family Life Programme is structured to be given within the Religious Education Department and follows the teachings of the Catholic Church in all matters beginning in Year 7 and followed through in subsequent years to the Sixth Form.

Learning Support

All pupils in the school, including those with Special Needs, have access to a broad, balanced, differentiated curriculum and are actively encouraged to take full part as integrated members of the school community.
In addition to supporting those pupils with learning difficulties, the school provides a framework for identifying pupils who may be exceptionally able. Such pupils will be encouraged to rise to challenging targets.
